Rural Utah is any county EXCEPT Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, or Weber.Either residency OR rural days ≥75% unlocks the 25% top tier.
Community Film Incentive Program (CFIP)
CFIP is a 20% cash rebate for Utah-originating productions with budgets between $100K–$500K. It requires a Utah-resident Director, Writer, or Producer AND 85%+ Utah-resident cast/crew. If your project fits the CFIP budget range and you check the box below, the calculator will route through CFIP automatically.
Credit Form Preference
For projects with $500K–$1M in qualified spend, you can choose a cash rebate or a refundable tax credit. Projects with $1M+ in qualified spend receive a tax credit only.
Minimum Spend Requirement
MPIP requires at least $500,000 in qualified Utah spend. The $500K–$1M tier also requires 75% Utah-resident cast/crew. Smaller projects ($100K–$500K) may qualify for the separate Community Film Incentive Program (CFIP).
